We thought it was pretty cool to see a deer behind our back fence on Saturday, but we weren’t quick enough with the camera. We made up for it this morning with a picture of a beautiful owl perched in the tree in our back yard! (See attached photos.) We aren’t sure if it was a spotted owl or a barred owl (they look very similar, but a spotted owl is more rare). It sat there for over an hour, fully alert and appeared to be hunting. We read that they eat rabbits (among other things), which run around here in abundance, so that is probably what it was looking for, but I could have sworn it was going to pounce on a squirrel a couple of times! Eventually, a blue jay landed in the tree and the owl flew into the greenbelt behind us. Maybe we don’t need to live near the zoo after all! 🙂
